Istanbul : Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Galata Tower

Hi Everyone,:)

Here’s the first post from Istanbul. We spent loads of time sightseeing there. We started our day with Grand Bazaar. It has around 4000 shops and is a good place to buy your trinkets. Don’t get into buying bags, shoes, jewellery etc. They have the best of fakes. πŸ˜› It’s the best place for picking up souvenirs for friends and family. Don’t forget to BARGAIN! πŸ™‚

Then we walked ahead on lovely cobbled streets to see the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome of Constantinople, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia literally blew our mind away with their enriching history and enchanting architecture. It’s crazy how amazing the architecture of the Byzantine era was. I wore a black outfit since we were going to visit the mosques. And this was my little way of showing respect! πŸ™‚

Honestly, we got a little bored at the Topkapi palace. It’s basically a museum and you get to see the clothes, and gems of the royalty of Byzantine time. But the best thing was the cafe at the Topkapi Palace. You sit right next to the sea, enjoy the chilly wind, catch the view and sip your coffee. Β This was the View. It was breathtaking. πŸ™‚

The last stop of the day was the Galata Tower. It is the highest point of Istanbul. But the highlight of the day was the birthday celebration of one of the members of our travel group. We were really lucky to have an amazing group to travel with during the trip. The people of our group gelled with each other just like a family. It made the whole trip super memorable for everyone. πŸ™‚

We went back to our hotels, chilled out over glasses of wines and headed to have a late dinner.

It was a beautiful day. πŸ™‚

Sharing some pics from our day in Istanbul. πŸ™‚

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior.
The many lamps inside the mosque were once covered with gold and gems. Among the glass bowls one could find ostrich eggs and crystal balls. All these decorations have been removed or pillaged for museums.

  5. Bhumika says:

U look stunning in black..and the headband and wayfarers totally add to it! U mentioned u decided to wear black as you were heading to the mosques..I just wanted to ask u, do u decide the outfits u would be wearing for the trip beforehand ? You should also do a ‘What all to pack during travels’ Do you pack light ?

    • Rati says:

thank you bhumika. πŸ™‚ yes i do decide outfits before every trip. but all us do right? :)) i had recently been to Jordan so i sort of had a bit of idea about the clothes for a muslim country. i decided to go the conservative way and we did have blue mosque in our ‘must visit’ places in Turkey. So I had a black outfit in mind…it could have been anything black. I just got lucky with these pants. πŸ™‚

I travel okay..cant say light. I always mix up my bags and shoes with the outfits but clothes i pack by the number of days we’d be there. There is no time to do laundry while travelling. and i prefer wearing fresh clothes everyday. πŸ™‚

    • Rati says:

btw i always mention about clothes in my ‘how to plan’ trips. :))

      • Bhumika says:

Ya I do read that in ‘how to plan’ posts..acc to the country’s culture, etc..But just a general one..like the essentials or something you learnt you should carry along during your travels and now you always do..since you travel a lot, I thought it would be interesting to know and would help πŸ™‚
