New Journey

ka sha karishma shahni dress

Hi Everyone, πŸ™‚

How is the New Year treating you? Mine has been a bit of mix with some saddening news coming from friends to the excitements of new highs we want to achieve for IMBB. And it has been an extremely busy month..in a good way.

Since the start of the year, I don’t know what got on to me but I got into a major decluttering mode. The first attack was obviously my wardrobe. I got rid of every single piece of clothing that I haven’t worn in past 6 months, that did not fit me and that I bought and never wore. I donated all of it (even shoes and bags) and it only felt like I’d achievedΒ Nirvana.:P So I have decided to slowly rebuild my wardrobe and only include pieces that I really love. And of course document it here on Faux Pas.

It feels a bit scary for someone who had an overflowing closet to trying to become someone who has a minimal wardrobe but a quality one. I HATE shopping bans so nothing of that is happening but I have decided not to do impulse shopping. So if I am not 100% sure of something, it is not finding place in my wardrobe.

I am not quite sure how it is going to go. But I’d share my journey with you all. The first one is this dress from Ka-Sha by Karishma Shahani. The deal breaker for this dress for me was the back…those bows are so dreamy. I wore this for lunch today.

I would love to know your wardrobe rules in comments below! I will see you all very soon. Mwaaaahhh!!!

Nobody can take the fashionista out of you. I think you belong to magazine spreads in French fashion magazines πŸ™‚ Donating feels so good na Rati, though I can never give away my old jeans, they remind me of the time when I was ahem, of normal body type πŸ˜›

  6. Sindhura says:

  7. Charu says:

I would love to see a wardrobe tour of your wardrobe.. Please share how you keep and manage you complete wardrobe, with clothes, bags and shoes..
And yes, donating gives and sense of satisfaction that nothing can..

  8. Anu says:

Hey Rati , cool dress. My wardrobe rule is very simple . have basics first grey white denims never go out of fashion. just to have load s of load s of them. Simple grey tee ,peasant blouse s,cashmere marl grey knits , denim skorts jeans shorts , black leggings hot red mani. That’s it make my wardrobe simple

  9. Kat says:

I did a lot of decluttering in January as well. The idea was to not buy anything new for a short while so that I can actually focus on stuff that I have (it was not just clothes) and use them or throw them. I don’t have a method but a friend of mine gives away one piece of clothing when she buys one new. It is like ‘one in, one out’. Thought that was fairly simple and easy to follow.
Have you heard about Marie Kondo method? Marie Kondo is the author of the book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing”? It talks about keeping items that brings you joy and getting rid of the rest.
The only wardrobe rule that I follow now is to have classy pieces, even if it is a few.
    And, you look great!

    • Rati says:

I am definitley checking out that book , Kat. Thanks for the reco. :)) and totally liking the one in and one out rule. I am not sure if i’d be strict with it but worth trying. :)) Thank you for all the inputs and good luck to you too. thank you :))

  10. Neha says:

Good to see you are back on fauxpas ?
I followed the same rule of restrictive shopping since last year and to buy only classic piece for my wardrobe.
Its like a therapy and every time you wear from ur classic wardrobe you’ll look more polished and well put together.
Thats my way of doing decluttering ?

    • Rati says:

You made it sound so good. :)) I am keeping my fingers crossed but it is all good vibes so far. πŸ˜€ happy sunday. :))

  11. Saabri says:

Loved your dress Rati, such ethnic vibe you reflect . I would love to have a piece from Ka-sha, I like how she plays with colors and dye-ing art :-). I declutter every spring and autumn; and what better way to share my beloved belongings with somebody who would appreciate it even more, its a win-win solution πŸ™‚
    Lots of love and hugs,
    Saabri

  13. vinnimeow says:

Yayyyy, your Faux-pas posts are back! God knows how much I miss them.
You looking super! Well, I did this in December so I have a minimal closet this year and I will add some classic pieces only to keep it that way. Fingers crossed! Noone knows what enters into us when we enter those malls. πŸ˜‰
New for me is new short hairdo, will share pics on MG. Super excited!

    • Rati says:

I cant wait to see your haircut!! :)) Hahha!!! I agree about the mall thing. Hilarious how you put it. lolll!!! πŸ˜€

Thank you and I am trying my best to be regular. It is my third love. πŸ˜› First two being IMBB and Sanjeev. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  14. RituKT says:

I am one of those people who are guilty of impulsive shopping. I started being cautious of my buying habits when one day I couldn’t find anything to wear from my overflowing wardrobe. I loved this dress, I loved the scalloped hemline on it a lot!

    • Rati says:

I totally relate to that sentiment. πŸ˜› πŸ˜› Thank you. and you know she has put a lovely red trimming on the inside. So when I walk it looks like a mix of red and blue hemline. It’s cute. :))

  15. Suchitra says:

You are looking gorgeous Rati! And I agree with you. Decluttering somehow makes you feel so good!

I don’t experiment too much with my clothes and stick to whatever makes me feel comfortable. But I give in to impulse buying and then realise that it is not my colour or my style sometimes. My clothes threatened to tumble out of my wardrobe so I ruthlessly put sentiment on hold and cleared it. Clothes for the weekend in one row, office casuals in one row and office formals in another. I gave some of them to the homeless and gave the rest to a cousin who’s the same size as me. Bliss! And it freed up so much space!

    • Rati says:

Thank you suchitra. πŸ™‚ I would possibly like to have a mix of basic and experimental pieces. Can’t help it. hahha!! I let go of so many sentimental clothes, it is not even funny. 😐 But I loved your idea of organising clothes depending on occasion or days. Would like to give it a try! Atleast must keep all gym clothes at one place to start with. πŸ˜€ Thanks for sharing. πŸ™‚

      • Suchitra says:

You just made my day with your comment Rati! πŸ™‚ Thank you so much. I really appreciate the effort you take to individually answer every comment. πŸ™‚

  16. Gosh Rati you lighten up the crappiest of my days and make me wanna wear good clothes and just randomly twirl around infront of my 19 month old son Shaurya..well i did it and he clapped πŸ™‚ as far as buying clothes go i am all about plaid shirts and jeans from the moment my baby became a toddler…mommy gotta do lots of running around behind him…my toddler’s tantrums made me skip all kinda DSF (Dubai Shopping Festival) fun and shopping indulgence:( would love to see a post from you on incorporating spring fashion essentials in a basic wardrobe…n ahhh love ur half moon bag…lotsa love from Dubai.

    • Rati says:

awww thank you soumya!! I am not exactly sure what you mean by ‘spring fashion essentials ‘. I’d share whatever I’d be wearing and including in my wardrobe here on the blog. I hope you find some inspiration from that!! :))

love from India. :-* and hi to Shaurya! πŸ™‚

  17. First.. You look lovely, as always. Two, thanks for being back on FP. Three, don’t talk about decluttering!!! Please.
This sale season.. I shopped like mad and scouted through your winter look book to get some ideas. And you taking about donating clothes.. !!!! πŸ˜€

On a serious note.. I have a ritual. Twice a year.. I declutter my home. It’s something I am used to do since childhood. My mom hates piling up things. She is the first one to give away things that are not in use. She gives all away – books, gift pieces, shoes, chocolates, diaries.. So this kind of practice helps.

I get emotional about almost everything.. So I know it takes courage to give away your stuff.. Even if you aren’t using them. But well done. New year wishes and lots n lots of love to you.

  18. Perkymegs says:

Love the dress Rati. You are effortlessly chic and stylish. I too was missing your monday posts. I usually don’t write here but you are a true inspiration to me and i adore you with the bottom of my heart. May you and Sanjeev succeed more in life πŸ™‚

  19. Sudeshna Datta says:

    Hello Rati…

I must say that the look is fabulous and the person in it takes the whole thing extra mile !!!

Decluttering is the best way to purchase new clothes and smirk at the flabbergasted husband when you show him the extra space in your wardrobe. Also, its better to make judicious purchases at full price than shop during sale. With all the permutations and combinations of offers thrown at us and with people running pell-mell with arm full of stuffs, you always end up with just one decent thing out of the sale lot.

I avidly follow YouTuber ‘LightbyCoco’… She and Marie Kondo really know to keep things precise, neat and manageable…

Lastly… I have been following IMBB since 2012 and this is the first comment i have managed to post; and i have to say – IMBB & FauxPas Rocks !!!

    • Rati says:

thank you sudeshna!! :)) I personally am not a huge sale shopper unless it comes to designer brands. I feel i end up buying trash from the sales as opposed to buying one at a full price. not sure it is just me or a lot of people fall in that category!

i’d check out the channels! πŸ™‚

  20. Megha Gupta says:

Wow Rati what a post, I also did some wardrobe cleaning in nov 2015 and vowed than to do so in every six months. Would love to meet you sometime

  21. aru says:

You looking fab!! Love the color.. I bought a long dress recently and just haven’t found an occasion to wear it + the fact that I need to sort out how to address that’s its a bit transparent is stopping me. I buy so many clothes but I am always in jeans. Bugs me and my husband/friends to no end. Only thing I don’t do anymore are kurtas and jeans. I prefer long tunics and leggings instead.

    • Rati says:

may be wear a slip skirt underneath. check it out at marks and spencer. I am totally behaving myself so far. all that i have included in my wardrobe as yet.. i am happy with it! πŸ˜€ let’s see how much can i keep u with it! :))

      thank you :))

  22. Tara says:

The dress looks nice on you Rati. And I must say getting rid of an overflowing wardrobe is really a big milestone achieved. I wonder when would I be that organzied and gutsy πŸ˜› I wish you both a rocking year ahead, take care.
