Bali Day 1: Sacred Monkey Forest, Ubud, Tanah Lot Temple, Kecak Fire Dance

Hi Everyone, πŸ™‚

This week I’d share my posts from Bali with you all. My laptop conked out so I couldn’t share the posts as we went along. Anyhoo, I am back home. It’s all good. Sanjeev and I had the most incredible trip we could have imagined. And I can’t wait to share all the details with you all. πŸ™‚

The first day of Bali we started with the Sacred Monkey Forest, Ubud. It’s a nature’s reserve and a temple complex. You’d fund the sweetest monkeys here. You give them something to eat and they’d hop on you lap and back. πŸ˜› I was mighty scared when a monkey sat on my lap but it was an incredible experience. πŸ™‚ Two foreigner girls made a monkey sit in their lap, and were taking selfies, but the monkey farted. Lol! The temple was surrounded by so much greenery all around. The ancient temple architecture was a lesson in architecture itself.

The next stop was the Ubud Market and the King’s Place (Puri Saren Royal Ubud Palace). The king’s palace was going under renovation so we could get to see only small part of the palace. But whatever it was, was undoubtedly beautiful.

Ubud Market is a cultural centre of Bali. You can pick up a lot of art work, wood work, cane work, jewellery, clothes , bags, crafts etc. Be ready to bargain. πŸ™‚ The prices in Indonesian rupiah are in thousands so divide it by 180 to get roughly the price in Indian rupees. Don’t get scared to hear the price of a straw bag as 200000. πŸ˜› It started raining heavily while we were leaving the market and the place looked so stunning…something like this.I was Β in love. πŸ™‚

Passing on the experiences

The next stop was the Tanah Lot Temple. You have to walk through the street market, resist getting tempted by all the shopping to reach to the actual temple. πŸ˜› Tanah Lot is a rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali. It is home of a pilgrimage temple, the Pura Tanah Lot (literally “Tanah Lot temple”). The temple gets surrounded by the sea during high tides and I am sure the view is as breathtaking. Tt was a cloudy evening but that didn’t deter the tourists from visiting the place. What a sunset. There is a sunset after a sunny day and then there was this one after a rainy day. What can I say. Mr Husband captured the essence of the place so beautifully. I can’t stop seeing the pics myself. πŸ™‚

The day ended with a beautiful Kecak Fire dance. The play was based on Sita Haran. It was so graceful. I wanted to stand up and dance with them. The Ravan was really funny. When all the other characters were talking in Balinese, Ravan was talking in gitat pitar English- “Dear Sita. Do not worry. I will love you. I will kiss you.” πŸ˜›
